Nicolás Reyes

I have worked on different instrumentation efforts in radio astronomy. As undergraduated I become involved with the Mini telescope instrumentation. At that time (2006) I was involved in the replacement of the original Klystron oscilator by a new Gunn oscillator. I also worked on integrate to the receiver a HEMT amplifier as detector, instead of the previous Schottky mixer. Since that time I have been collaborating with differet projects associated with that telescope, currently installed at Cerro Calán.

After this initial work I become involved, as graduate student (2008), in the design and construction of a prototype receiver for ALMA Band 1. Since the completion of my thesis project I have worked as research engineer in the Band 1 project in Chile.

Band 1 actually is being built by a consortium of institutions among Universidad de Chile, Hertzberg Institute of Astrophysics, National Radio Astronomy Observatory and the Academia Sinica of Astronomy and Astrophysics. Universidad de Chile is in charge of delivering the optics package of the receiver.
