MCSS opens Public Outreach Season 2011 in Til Til
The Solar System and the features of its planets, was two of the main subjects that the students of fourth and fifth grade (Primary Education) of "Liceo Huertos Familiares" in Til Til received as part of the 2011 Public Outreach Season of Millennium Center for Supernova Science.
The lecture was held on Monday, March 21, between 10 and 12 in the morning, and was attended by more than 50 students aged between nine and 11 years of age.
"These talks are the first of many that we will do this year, we hope to contribute with a grain of sand to scientific knowledge that is taught in the primary education of our country, " adds Victor Salinas, Extension Professor MCSS.
During the session, professor Salinas gave two copies of the book "Astronomía Contemporánea", (i.e “Contemporary Astronomy”) to the Director of the School, the text was written by the Chilean National Science Prize and MCSS researcher José Maza. "We will read it with great interest and then make them available to the students, " said the Director.
Additionally, to the theoretical lecture, on Friday, March 25 (after 21 hours), there will be a star observation session in the soccer court of the School. The activity will use three high-resolution portable telescopes, the operation will be conducted under the supervision of professor Edgardo Cosgrove, specialist in the operation of such devices.
