One of the greatest unanswered questions in astrophysics is the formation and evolution of galaxies in the Universe. My main scientific interest is the formation of the Galaxy as traced by the chemical abundances of its oldest stars. My scientific activity has been focused on the detailed chemical study of giant stars in order to understand how the Galaxy was formed and how it has evolved. I have been using low- and very high-resolution spectra of red giant stars in different stellar populations (halo, bulge, thick- and thin-disk) and environments (field and globular clusters).
