James Jenkins
James S. Jenkins is currently a staff researcher at the Departamento Astronomia for the Universidad de Chile in Santiago, Chile and a visiting fellow at the University of Hertfordshire in the UK. He was awarded his BSc in Astrophysics with 1st Class Honours from both the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University in 2003. He then went on to complete a Ph.D under the supervision of Professor Hugh R.A. Jones at the University of Hertfordshire in the UK on the study of extrasolar planets and their host stars. After completing his Ph.D he was awarded a postdoctoral research position at Pennsylvania State University, working with Professor Lawrence Ramsey on the Precision Radial Velocity Spectrometer. Following this he took up a research post at the Universidad de Chile on Cerro Calan to work on exoplanet detection and characterisation and the nature of low-mass stars, where he currently remains active.
James has observed with the ESO VLT+NACO, 3.6m+HARPS and 2.2m+FEROS instruments at the Paranal-La Silla Observatories in Chile. In addition, he has obtained and analysed observations taken with the Hobby-Eberly Telescope in Texas and the Anglo-Australian Telescope at Siding Springs, Australia.
